You have been warned! ***END DISCLAIMER*** Welcome everyone to Touhou Fantasy! It's been about 5 years since this project was first started, and it's been a long road since then. There's still a LOT more to be done before the game is fully done, as it is probably (from guessing) 50% done now. It's pretty hard working alone for so long, though I've had various help here and there. Had it not been for some people, this project never would have even started! So, I'll just do a quick little Q&A here, for those curious about how this project started and whatnot. ======================================================= II. Character Breakdown There are a grand total of 50 characters that you will meet and be able to use throughout this game. However, only 18 of them are fully playable once they are obtained, while 10 are optional and the rest are all temporary. This section entails each of the 18 main playable characters of the game, from their roles in the story to how they function in battle. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Reimu Hakurei TYPE: Human "The main protagonist of the Touhou series. A shrine maiden that keeps watch over the Great Hakurei Border and resolves any incidents that occur in the land of Gensokyo. Specializes in divine abilities." Storyline: Reimu is as you'd expect her to be; the main protagonist. You start the game with her, and you essentially end the game with her, though not always is she with the party. As in any Touhou game, Reimu goes around investigating in her own way the strange occurances that has been happening throughout Gensokyo since the arrival of the mysterious Pandora's Box. Battle: Reimu is an all-around character as one would expect. She's capable of handling multiple things at once, such as buffing, healing, and offense, but she does not excel in any one particular category with the exception of Holy elemental attacks, which only Hope excels in. ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: ------------------------------------------------------------- *Purification: Removes all negative statuses excluding Death after battle ends to Reimu. During battle, 10% chance each turn to remove all negative statuses from Reimu. CONS: *Due to being able to fill just about any role, not particularly great in anything aside from Holy-elemental damage and healing, as other units can do those roles to a far greater extent. *Pray is exceptionally weak throughout most of the game despite being free. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Marisa Kirisame TYPE: Human, Magician "A part-time youkai hunter and magician friend of Reimu. Hard-working and upbeat, she sometimes helps with incidents at hand, but on occassion will get in the way. Specializes in space magic." Storyline: Upon noticing a strange sound and the erratic behaviour of youkai, Marisa heads to the Hakurei Shrine to inform Reimu of the situation. She teams up with Reimu to help find the cause of this incident. Battle: Marisa is your typical battle mage, specializing in high-powered non-elemental attacks while still boasting a decent attack power. It is of note that Marisa CANNOT equip both a weapon and a Shield, so she is left with less Defense compared to other characters, and is also one of the few characters who can exclusively equip Robes. ------------------------------------------------------------- ABILITIES ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: *Auto-Collect: 5% chance each turn in battle for Marisa to find a random generic item or money. Item/money depends on encounter fought. Will not occur if Marisa is inflicted with Death, Paralyze, Sleep, Venom, Petrify, Stop, Freeze, Confusion, or Berserk. Chances of activation increases by +1% for every 127 points worth of Ps and Large Ps in the player's inventory, to a maximum of +4%. Ps are worth 1 points while Large Ps are worth 5 points. OVERWORLD: *Kleptomania: If in the party when opening a chest, 50% chance to obtain extra items. Cirno TYPE: Fairy Battle: Cirno is this game's equivalent of the Summoner in the Final Fantasy universe. She starts off immediately with Daiyousei, and can gain later summons after defeating them in battle. Her standard command focuses solely on Ice-elemental attacks and inflicting the Freeze status, with the exception of EYE'M THE STRONGEST!, which provides various self-buffs to Cirno, depending on the level used. Cirno starts with very high HP compared to most other characters, but is hurt by her low HP growth compared to everyone else. ------------------------------------------------------------- ABILITIES ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: *Eternal Bond: If Cirno is inflicted with a status that prevents her from acting (Confusion, Berserk, Sleep, Venom, Petrify, Stop, Heat, Paralyze, and Disable), Daiyousei will restore 10% Max HP to the party and remove all negative statuses to the party except Death. Occurs only once per battle. BATTLE PASSIVE UPGRADES: *Eternal Bond Lv2: Increases the amount of times Eternal Bond can be used to twice per battle. Only usable while equipped with the Baka Dress or Frostbite. *Eternal Bond Lv3: Increases the amount of times Eternal Bond can be used to three times per battle. Only usable while equipped with the Critical Freeze or 0K. Aya Shameimaru TYPE: Youkai Battle: Aya is tied for fastest character in the game, making her extremely versatile as a damage dealer and item user. However, Aya suffers from the worst Defense stat in the game, is extremely subsceptible to Magic attacks, and a high MP cost on her skills. She focuses solely on Wind-elemental and physical attacks, and has the unique Intel ability, which allows the player to gather information about the target chosen. All in all, Aya isn't a terrible character but she will need heavy protection against many types of attacks to avoid being decimated quickly. ------------------------------------------------------------- ABILITIES ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: *Tengu's Initiative: Enemies speed is halved for 4 turns at the start of battle. BATTLE PASSIVE UPGRADES: *Tengu's Initiative Level 2: Enemies speed is halved and party's speed is doubled for 4 turns at start of battle. *Tengu's Initiative Level 3: Enemies speed is halved for 4 turns, party's speed is doubled for 4 turns, and Aya gains Auto-Haste. Hong Meiling TYPE: Youkai Battle: Meiling is this game's equivalent of the Monk class. She boasts the highest Attack stat in the game for a fair amount of the game, and is a solid tank as well, having high HP and the ability to mitigate damage using Defend, as her Defend will reduce damage by 75%. In addition, all of Meiling's skills are rather powerful, and she is one of the few sources of group-healing in the game. However, she suffers from one of the worst MP pools in the game, as well as terrible Magic and low Speed. Tengu Feathers are a must for her to keep up with the rest of the party! ------------------------------------------------------------- ABILITIES ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: *Restore HP: If HP is below 25% Max HP, 10% chance each turn to restore HP back to 25%. CONS: *Has relatively low MP pool. *Is slightly gimped by several enemies being immune to Earth. *Weapons are expensive to buy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Patchouli Knowledge TYPE: Magician, Youkai Battle: As to be expected, Patchouli is this game's version of the Black Mage. She has various elemental spells at her disposal, including 7 of the 11 elements, and can also enchant weapons with elements for physical attackers to strike weaknesses. As one can expect, she suffers from abysmal defenses and low HP, but has the highest Magic stat in the game, and is surprisingly durable against all of the non-Advanced elements, taking half damage from them. With the right equipment, Patchouli can be made almost invincible against certain foes! ------------------------------------------------------------- ABILITIES ------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE PASSIVE: *Doublecast: 10% chance to use chosen skill twice in a row. If MP is less than required MP needed to cast skill for second casting, MP is reduced to 0 as the cost. BATTLE PASSIVE UPGRADES: *Doublecast Lv2: Increases chances of Doublecast activating to 15%. Only usable while equipped with the Twin Elemental. *Doublecast Lv3: Increases chances of Doublecast activating to 20%. Only usable while equipped with the Seven Element Robe. Reisen is unique for the fact that she has the highest Status resistance out of the playable characters, making her a prime choice in battles where multiple statuses may be flung around. In addition to this, Yuuka comes with various status-inflicting abilities, as well as Flower Shooting for Earth-elemental damage. Those excluded were Flandre, Suika, Kaguya, Satori, Akyuu, Rin, Parsee, Gengetsu, and Yuyuko. Satori was meant to be fully playable after the events of Blazing Fires of Hell, with Koishi taking her current role, but was ultimately reversed as there was no sprites at the time for Satori, and later figured it'd work out better having Koishi. *Keine's theme, Plain Asia, was meant to be used during the boss fight with her but was ultimately left out. *Several moves from each character was removed.
